What is chargeback pre-arbitration?

Chargeback pre-arbitration is a stage in the chargeback process. It is the last step before potential arbitration in the process of a chargeback dispute. It is essentially the final opportunity the opposing parties and their banks have to resolve a dispute before the card brand steps in to render a final decision via arbitration. Not every card brand makes use of pre-arbitration and the brands that do, such as Visa and Mastercard, have their own, specific policies and procedures for pre-arbitration.
